Belly Fat and Health Risks in India: Combating Diabetes and Heart Disease Epidemic
Introduction: Belly fat has emerged as a pressing concern for Indians, pushing them towards a higher risk of developing diabetes and heart disease. According to a comprehensive study conducted by the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation with support from the Indian Council of Medical Research, the prevalence of prediabetes and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) has reached alarming levels in India. In this article, we delve into the findings of this study, shed light on the implications for public health, and discuss strategies to combat this growing health crisis. The Prevalence of Prediabetes and NCDs: The study reveals that 15.3% of the Indian population, approximately 136 million people, are in the prediabetes stage, placing them at high risk of progressing to diabetes.
